Note: An update has been embedded within this article to reflect the 49ers' official list of inactive players.

We'll know for sure which San Francisco 49ers players are inactive for tonight's game against the Seattle Seahawks. For now, it is looking likely that, in addition to fullback Kyle Juszczyk and right tackle Mike McGlinchey, the team could have veteran left tackle Joe Staley and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.

At least, that's the impression reporters are getting based on pre-game warmups.

Update: Witherspoon's name was among the 49ers' list of seven inactive players. He will not play.

Update: Nick Wagoner of ESPN's initial tweet has been deleted. It had read as follows.

"#49ers CB Ahkello Witherspoon also out for pregame stretching. Based on early read here, Niners will have Witherspoon, Joe Staley, Mike McGlinchey and Kyle Juszczyk available tonight."

Witherspoon being active would make sense, seeing that the 49ers had to waive cornerback Dontae Johnson earlier today to activate tight end Garrett Celek from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. The 49ers needed an extra tight end with George Kittle (knee, ankle) not expected to play.

Staley, a 13-year veteran, suffered a fractured fibula during Week 2 and has not played since. He was listed as "questionable" entering tonight's game.

Staley had been limited heading into last week's practices but was a full participant as the 49ers prepared for the Seahawks.

"I feel good," Staley said last week. "If everything goes according to plan, I'll be out there this week. Today, I was out there for the full practice, which was the first time. Barring any type of setback, the plan is to play."

Staley has played his entire NFL career with the 49ers.

Witherspoon has started 24 games for the 49ers during his three NFL seasons. He suffered a foot sprain during Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and was replaced by second-year defensive back Emmanuel Moseley.

Witherspoon was listed as "questionable" to play against the Seahawks.

The 49ers made Witherspoon a third-round selection out of Colorado in 2017. He has registered nine combined tackles, five passes defensed, an interception, and a touchdown through three starts this season.

By David Bonilla

George Kittle made his sentiments clear in a recent conversation about his teammate, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The tight end emphasized that he couldn't picture the San Francisco 49ers without Aiyuk and spoke highly of him in a discussion with Fox News Digital's Scott Thompson. Report: Several teams inquiring about 49ers' Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 25

Brandon Aiyuk isn't the only San Francisco 49ers player being mentioned in trade chatter around the NFL. According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, several teams are also reaching out to inquire about the availability of wide receiver Deebo Samuel. "In the course of trade conversations about Brandon Aiyuk, numerous teams are inquiring about fellow 49ers WR Deebo Samuel's availability," Silver reports. "The 49ers would likely have to be blown away by the offer to make that move. Fluid situation, though."
