If anyone from this year's rookie receiver class was going to challenge John Ross' NFL Scouting Combine record of 4.22 seconds in the 40-yard dash, it was going to be Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs III. He didn't match Ross' mark but did come dangerously close, and that caught the attention of those observing.

Ruggs' 40-time of 4.27 seconds (initially unofficially timed at 4.28) was tops among this year's rookie receiver class and set the bar for the Combine. The next fastest speed came from Southern Mississippi wideout Quez Watkins, who clocked a 4.35-second 40-time.

Of course, none of this may mean a whole lot to the San Francisco 49ers, who could be in the market for a receiver but don't have a selection until pick No. 31. Ruggs is expected to be long gone by that slot.

Ruggs also recorded a vertical jump of 42 inches, tying for second among the receivers group.

Oh, and then you had Arizona State punter Michael Turk doing this...

Trent Taylor snatches up 49ers star receiver's old number

By David Bonilla
Apr 19

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be wearing No. 1 the next time he steps onto the football field, leaving behind his No. 19 jersey. It's an unfortunate change for any fan who previously invested in a Deebo jersey—unless they consider it a throwback. Newly signed wide receiver Trent Taylor quickly claimed No. 19 after rejoining the team on a one-year deal following three seasons elsewhere. Taylor last wore No. 15 with the 49ers, a number currently worn by wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Taylor also wore No. 81 with the team. The 49ers' official team site has listed the jersey numbers for several of the team's free-agent newcomers (and Maliek Collins, acquired via a
