Are you ready for your wild scenario for the week? NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks joined KNBR on Thursday and discussed the draft and potential targets for the San Francisco 49ers. He also threw something out there regarding a potential fit for recently-released quarterback Cam Newton.

I think you may know where this is headed.

Many are speculating that Newton could land with the Los Angeles Chargers, which seems to make a lot of sense. Brooks throws another potential landing spot out there. How about Kyle Shanahan's Niners?

Brooks admits that Newton might not be a perfect fit for every team due to his personality. But given the circumstances, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback could be a good value.

"If I'm Cam Newton, and I can't go to the L.A. Chargers because they love Tyrod (Taylor), I go to San Francisco," Brooks explained to Mark Willard. "And the reason why Cam Newton in San Francisco would work is because I just believe that there may not be this great sense that Jimmy Garoppolo is the guy there.

"And let's just say that he may not be the guy, so you put Cam back there behind him, and Cam gets to learn from one of the best quarterback gurus that we've seen in the league. And maybe, just maybe, Kyle Shanahan is intrigued on having an explosive athlete running the stretch bootleg concept, putting the ball in the perimeter, throwing it out there."

Newton's last two seasons have been injury-plagued. He landed on injured reserve on November 5 after suffering a Lisfranc fracture, which was healing slower than expected.

Before 2019, Newton had never passed for fewer than 3,100 yards. His best campaign came in 2015 when he threw for 3,837 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, leading the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance.

"I'm just saying, from the Niners' standpoint, you would be able to get Cam at his cheapest," Brooks continued. "So if you think about a value proposition, just to bring him in, in case Jimmy Garoppolo gets hurt or falters, it would just be an interesting thing to think about if I'm the San Francisco 49ers, and I'm looking to add value and pop to my offense."

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers have been striving to solidify their defensive backfield for years. They would love to find someone to fortify the outside cornerback spot opposite Charvarius Ward, allowing Deommodore Lenoir to play in the slot. While the team holds high hopes for newly signed cornerback Isaac Yiadom, believing he is the frontrunner for the job, the ultimate solution might come in the draft later this month. In a segment for NFL Network's "Path to the Draft," analyst Daniel Jeremiah was asked for the best team fit for former Alabama cornerback

Mike Silver on how Deebo Samuel's contract might be the starting point for a Brandon Aiyuk extension

By Al Sacco
Apr 16

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night. Why one analyst is worried for Brock Purdy if 49ers trade Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
12 hrs

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy achieved a remarkable feat in 2023, setting a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards. This accomplishment is noteworthy, considering the illustrious quarterbacks who have graced the organization's history. A significant portion of those yards came from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who amassed a career-high and team-leading 1,342 receiving yards. Most of his 75 catches originated from passes thrown by Purdy. Amidst significant offseason chatter surrounding the 49ers' star receiver, including several unsubstantiated trade rumors, Aiyuk's future remains uncertain. Former NFL player James Jones, now an analyst, expressed concern for Purdy should Aiyuk's tenure in the Bay Area come to an end. "I
